Self Portrait

There’s not really a whole lot one could expect to learn about me from a web site except possibly to be slightly impressed by the fact that I took the time to build one.

I’m a 29 year old single guy trying to etch out what semblance of a living I can here in Boise, Idaho. I’ve lived in the area for 10 years now. I do terribly boring technical stuff involving computers for a living, but hey I can set my own hours (mostly) and I don’t have to worry about where my next meal is coming from (usually), so it’s all good. And I can apply those “genius” technical skills to putting together websites like this one (yay…). Did you notice that I like using parenthesis (I mean, really… how could you not?)?

I won’t bore you with too many details (that’s what the section below is for). But I must say, I do applaud you for having read this far…

Karaoke – I love to sing. I’m not going to toot my own horn (I don’t have a horn – not a literal one anyway), but many people have told me that I’m pretty decent. If left to my own devices on a weekend, you can bet you’ll find me at a karaoke bar, most likely Club Savvy’s in Garden City. Come down and hang out! Heck, I’ll even buy you a game of pool while we’re waiting for the rotation to come up.

Pool – I didn’t say you’d win…

Magic: The Gathering – A collectable card game I like to play (as well as dump horrendous amounts of money into). It is the equivalent of Chess for the modern era: extremely challenging, and very open-ended. The pictures of dragons and zombies on the cards are pretty cool too. Check out www.MagicTheGathering.com for more information.

Video Games – Have I officially established my nerd cred yet? I’m more of a console player and I’ve been at it since the Atari days (damn, I’m old). I’m not much of one for computer games and I haven’t yet joined the whole online gaming community. If I ever want to hear teenagers slinging misspelled profanities and getting all pissed off when I whoop their ass, I’ll consider changing my stance.

Prose and Poetry – Um, yeah… I kinda put this site together to showcase that. Now if I could just get my butt in gear and write some new stuff…

Music – Despite the lack of any real talent for musical instruments, I’ve always had a passion for creating music. Fortunately, computers can make up for most of that talent stuff (so long as you have a good idea for a song and you’re really, really patient). So I’ve created an entire album of techno music, and I’ve also put together some more contemporary rock and roll that I can sing to. I have also posted some of my techno pieces on this site.

Tae Kwon Do – I was a member of Kim’s Taekwondo Studio here in Boise. I got all the way up to the black stripe on the brown belt (that’s right before black belt) before I had to quit because of scheduling conflicts (i.e. – I was working too much). I could go back now I suppose, but I’m really sick of the politics at the place I went to. I do miss it though… Perhaps I’ll find another school that I’ll be more satisfied with.
